Talking of warp speed, the US military are now testing quadcopters that can hit a whopping 45mph.
The drones under testing by DARPA (the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) were able to hit 20m per second or 45mph, while being guided autonomously.
The video above, filmed at Otis Air National Guard Base in Massachusetts, illustrates an initial flight test for the Fast Lightweight Autonomy programme. As it says on the tin, the FLA programme is geared towards maneuverable delivery through complex environments without human intervention. The units could be deployed to tackle disasters or spec out buildings. Or for drone racing, obviously – moving the sport up a notch into Formula 1.
